Become a Mentor and Earn CEU's at the Same Time!
I remember when I was an interpreting student way back when....
I attended one of Sharon Newman Solo's wonderful workshops. At the end of the
workshop I approached her, spouting off how much I learned, and that all I
wanted to do was just keep taking workshops from her. She looked at me with a
huge grin and said, "Thank you. You are so sweet. BUT...remember...."we are the
sum of our mentors." Learn from others. This has stuck with me all these years.
Now that YOU are certified, you too can be a mentor to some very needy
interpreters out there who passionately want to improve their skills.
YOU too can give back to the profession AND earn CEU's at the same time. WHAT A
DEAL!
How do you do this? Find someone who needs to grow as an interpreter. Make sure
you feel comfortable working with, being with, and communicating with that
person or persons. That's right...maybe you can mentor more than one interpreter
at the same time, so everyone can learn from each other too!
When you find that special mentee/s, contact me to earn your Independent Study
(IS) credits. You can earn up to 2 CEU's for each IS (which is equivalent
to 20 hours of your valuable time). If the mentorship is almost over and both of
you agree to continue the mentorship, go for it! YOU can earn MORE CEU'S!
If you are interested in earning CEU's through an IS activity, or if you just
have questions about it, please contact Kathleen Lanker at
mklanker@sbcglobal.net.
