Announcements:
"Title of Project: Characterizing Spanish-English-ASL video relay
interpreting"
Responsible Principal Investigator: David Quinto-Pozos, Ph.D.
Saludos/Greetings everyone,
Your participation is being requested for a research survey about
the developing field of Trilingual Interpreters and interpretation. The
research survey is for Trilingual Interpreters, and D/HH and hearing
consumers of trilingual interpretation services. The Trilingual Committee is
forwarding this to SCRID members. In the event that you or anyone you know
meets the criteria, the participant could take the survey or pass on the
information. The surveys are anonymous and for the purpose of collecting
data. The deadline to submit your survey is in mid-January. The following is
a brief description of the Survey taken from the consent document:
“If you have participated in Video Relay Service (VRS) calls, either as a
Deaf, hard-of-hearing, or hearing client or a sign language interpreter for
such calls, your participation in a research study is being requested. The
principal investigator is David Quinto-Pozos, Ph.D., Assistant Professor in
the Department of Speech and Hearing Science at the University of Illinois
at Urbana-Champaign. You must be at least 18 years of age to participate in
this study.
The purpose of this study is to obtain information about English-Spanish-ASL
Video Relay Service (VRS) interpreting. Through this study, we plan to
collect information (through a phone survey and written surveys) about
Spanish-English-ASL VRS interpreting from TRS providers, Deaf, hearing, and
hard-of-hearing clients who are served on video relay calls, and
interpreters who provide services. The collected information will be
disseminated through various means in order to support training and policy
decisions about VRS interpretation as an important resource in the United
States Deaf community.
If you consent to participate, you will be asked to complete a questionnaire about some of your experiences with Spanish-English-ASL VRS interpreting. It is anticipated that this questionnaire will require approximately 15-20 minutes of your time.” Links to survey documents: Survey for interpreters who have worked in Spanish-English-ASL video relay interpreting situations
