CDI Workshop With Jimmy Beldon! (All Day)


When: June 11-13, 2010

Location: Deaf Studies at California State University, Northridge



  • June 11, Friday 6:30p.m.-8:30p.m.

  • June 12, Saturday 9 a.m.-5p.m.

  • June 13, Sunday 9 a.m.-5 p.m.;  1 p.m.-4 p.m. with hearing interpreters (.4 CEUs)


Are you deaf? Do you like the interpreting process? Interested in becoming a Certified Deaf Interpreter?


What things should a Deaf interpreter do to ensure high quality interpreting services? What kind of interpreting assignment is the Deaf interpreter qualified to perform? What study materials should the Deaf person study in preparation of testing for CDI certification? This track offers an in-depth exploration and practical experience in the application of these questions.


On Sunday afternoon, the participants would do practices on the interpreting skills including mirror interpreting, simultaneous interpreting, consecutive interpreting, and text interpreting with hearing interpreters using the mock scenarios.

Requirements:


You already have (or will buy) So You Want to Be an Interpreter: An Introduction to Sign Language Interpreting by Janice Humphrey and Bob Alcorn.

Classy Classifiers (9:00 AM)

This workshop will identify ASL Classifiers and provide examples to illustrate how, where, and when to apply classifiers while interpreting from English to ASL to create a visual picture that will be more readily recognized by Deaf consumers.. In addition the interpreter will be able to effectively assess and interpret from ASL into English when the Deaf consumer is using classifiers to express him/herself.  This workshops is 5 hours in length and offers .5 CEU's.
