Strong Language in ASL: Sex, Drugs & Rock N Roll

Taught by Alonna Lamb, CI/CT, SC:L, this workshop will explore ASL signs and concepts associated with drug use, sexuality, and diverse signs used within various registers and euphemisms. Alonna will discuss:


An overview of ASL signs and concepts and its corresponding written English equivalents (when available)
Opportunities to incorporate ASL signs and concepts in their interpretation during practice sessions


** This workshop, conducted in English, will involve graphic discussion and usage of sexually explicit language. Participants will engage in practical exercises to improve the use of strong language in their interpreting.


Cost:   Interpreters: $20.00, Students: $10.00, Sorenson VRS Interpreters: Free

Alonna Lamb CI, CT, SC: L – Alonna has a passion for working in the interpreting field and has been certified for the past twenty years.  She studied at the National Technical Institute for the Deaf in Rochester, NY from 1985-1987.  She enjoys teaching a variety of topics from “ASL Linguistic” to “Working with a CDI”.  Alonna has been a mentor, trainer and conference interpreter with Sorenson Video Relay Service for the past three years.  She has also worked numerous national and international conferences such as: DeafWay, the Deaflympics, RID and many more.  In addition, Alonna has been working in the courts for the past 15 years and has an array of legal work experience under her belt.  She now looks forward growing and sharing her talents with the professional development team here at Sorenson.
