- How should I choose a mentor?
SCRID suggests that you assess your competencies and/or identify your goals and then look for a mentor that matches those criteria. Or ask for a referral to a good mentor. Once you have a short list, contact the mentor for an initial interview.
- Can I have more than one mentor at any given time?
Yes, indeed. You can have as many mentors as you feel you need. You may want a language mentor and an interpreting mentor at the same time.
- Do I need to pay for being mentored?Often a mentor is paid. Be sure to ask about the going rate for mentoring services in your area. You can try to find mentors who are offering their services for free. You might also ask about bartering services between mentor and mentee.
- Can I be a mentor and a mentee at the same time?Yes indeed. The whole paradigm of peer to peer mentoring is that each of us has some gifts that we would like to share and at the same time there are areas where we struggle and need help. So the goal of SCRID is all of us coming together to help each other.
