  • Maintain monthly calendar
  • Check SCRID email a minimum of three times per week unless there is an event
  • Provide at least quarterly reports to the membership concerning business and Board of Directors activities and financial status of the corporation
  • Shall submit a Presidents letter for every issue of the “Interpreter”
  • Submit a monthly report
  • Submit an annual report for the annual membership meeting
  • Attend 75% of all board meetings
  • Oversee the fiscal year budget

TRAINING, EXPERIENCE, ABILITIES

  • Certified Interpreter
  • SCRID member in good standing;

Vice President
Juti Seshi
Juti has many years of leadership experience beginning in college where she was the President of various on campus clubs including the Associated Student Body, the Human Services Club, the Adult Re-entry Club and the Psychology club. Two of these clubs were founded by Ms. Seshi.
She has owned and operated two businesses for over 30 years. Currently she suns the Love2ASL.com Professional Development Center. In the past, she operated a group home for deaf and disable children for 28 years.
Juti is currently serving on RID’s Professional Development Committee. This committee is actively involved in reviewing and approving applications for Certificate Maintenance Program Sponsors and auditing those sponsors. She feels what she has learned serving on this committee will benefit her in working as Vice President if elected.
Treasurer
Richard Bernard, incumbent
While serving as Treasurer for the past two years I have been able to simplify the bookkeeping, restructure the banking to it easier for SCRID to manage funds, cleared up the reporting of back taxes and relocated the UPS Store to one that was more centrally located and provided SCRID the services it needs. I wish to continue in the capacity of Treasurer to make additional changes that will further improve the financial stability of SCRID.

This NOI is a great opportunity for RID to make the necessary points about and advocate for the video interpreting workforce within the VRS program….with that – we need your help!!!

The RID Government Affairs Program is seeking input from the members as we formulate the RID comments from the perspective of the video interpreter. Established by President Richard Nixon with an Executive Order in 1974, National Volunteer Week
recognizes people from all walks of life who aspire to make a difference. This year, National Volunteer Week 2010
is being celebrated this week, April 18 – 24.
President Bill Clinton said, "Whether through the workplace or a house of worship, in our own neighborhoods or in
another state or country, service binds us together as Americans in a way nothing else can. It defines us as a
people, and it is essential to achieving our national priorities."
In a presidential proclamation on April 16, 2010, President Barack Obama declared, “Since the founding of our
Nation, we have met our greatest challenges through the dedication of countless Americans who have given
generously of themselves, asking for nothing in return. The American story is a story of volunteers -- of patriots
who fought for our founding ideals, of people who marched for justice, of firefighters who rushed into burning
towers, and of ordinary citizens who lifted up struggling communities. All were volunteers, and their work changed
our country. This week, we recognize their enduring contributions and encourage more Americans, especially our
youth, to join their ranks. Today's vast challenges require a renewed commitment to service, and Americans are
answering that call. From mentoring a student and feeding the homeless, to rebuilding after a natural disaster,
volunteers are touching lives every day. Social entrepreneurs are pioneering innovative approaches to community

and day out as we strive to serve the RID membership and the interpreting and transliterating profession.
So, whether you chair a committee or a task force, lead a member section or an affiliate chapter, serve as a
committee, task force or affiliate chapter board member, the RID National Board of Directors and national office

Things have been busy around Southern California over the past six months. July 2009 brought several new individuals to the board: Robin Taylor as President, Michael Klyn as Secretary and Richard Bernard as Treasurer. The following remained in their positions: Renahlee Crow, Vice President; and Marlene Shanker as Member at Large; Julie Casaccia moved to the Past President position. Continuing board members have been very supportive to new board members who have been diligent in learning their positions. It’s safe to say, we have forged a strong board to support SCRID’s mission over the next couple of years.

The board is expecting good things to come from Daryl Crouse, Steve Barnthouse, Kathy Goodson and Maren Jensen; all individuals who have recently joined on as committee chairs. At the same time, SCRID is actively searching the community to find people who are service minded to fill the vacant positions.

With the recent appointments of Maren Jensen and Steve Barnthouse’s as co-chairs of the CMP committee,  SCRID is again providing sponsorship of CEUs for events.  Maren and Steve were quick studies in the requirements of their chairmanships. Their organizational skills and dedication are proving to be great assets to SCRID and the community at large.

Upon the establishment of an official website committee and appointment of Daryl Crouse as website chair, SCRID went about surveying the membership for input on the website. The survey was vital to the design and implementation of the new website which has a news & information driven format and has an events calendar that members can post to. Additionally, SCRID implemented a ‘constituent relationship management program’, CiviCRM, which will revolutionize the organization’s event registration and online membership functionality. Through an integrated database of events, memberships, contributions and community stakeholder contacts, SCRID will be able to maintain a closer relationship with members and community partners.

The new website launched about a month ago in beta form (a work in progress). So far, the feedback has been outstanding.  The involvement of the membership and surveying their desires is the reason the project has been so successful. In addition, the newly formed website committee is working to package the entire project so that other AC’s could implement similar websites by simply modifying graphics to create a unique look and feel. The support of the board and committees of SCRID served as a valuable and indispensable source of information and support for the project.

The website soon will showcase the updated approach for the mentorship committee. Kathy Goodson, Mentorship Committee Chair, has been working on collecting information and perspectives to give direction to the committee based on history and the needs of the membership. The goal behind the changes is to provide the best platform for members within the confines of the organization and region. As always, feedback from the membership is always welcome after the new information is posted.

Aside from the changes that come from new chair persons, SCRID has also been active in the community. September found board members and volunteers at several Deaf Awareness events in support of the community. 30 new members signed up with SCRID at these events. In 2010, SCRID will exhibit at the TerpExpo in Irvine February 18th -21st at the Marriott in Irvine and at 3rd Annual National Sign Language and Interpreting Conference at the Anaheim convention center April 30th – May 1st.

January 16th SCRID will be providing a free workshop for members after the board meeting at Pierce College. The workshop will focus on classifiers. Additionally, SCRID will be co-hosting a CDI training with CSUN Deaf Studies February 6th. Dan Langholtz will be providing the training which will be open to all.

SCRID is looking into being hosted in Ventura County for the following face-to-face board meeting. Hopes are to have another free workshop following this meeting as well.
