Interpreting in K-12 Settings Series:

Advanced Math Concepts

Providing access to instruction in conceptually accurate form is critical for Deaf students in K-12 grades when students are developing foundational knowledge.  Student success as they progress through school and more advanced math courses will depend on a strong conceptual foundation.  Further, common core curriculum requires students to have a conversational mastery within a higher level of rigor overall.

In this workshop, a master math teacher will review advanced math concepts commonly taught in high school classes. This 4 hour workshop will provide the knowledge needed to successful interpret major concepts in advanced math.  Participants will:  1) discuss interpreters’ accomplishments and concerns; 2) review advanced math concepts with corresponding appropriate ASL signs; 3) apply knew knowledge by engaging in simulated interpreting activities; 4)  access websites relating to math signs.

This workshop is part of a series of workshops designed for interpreters working in K-12 educational settings.  Please watch for more co-hosted workshops coming in the following months!
