Southern California Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf


SCRID is an affiliate chapter of the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID). It is the mission of the Southern California Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf to promote best practices, equity, and representation within the profession of Sign Language Interpreting; provide professional development and education for current and future practitioners; serve as a forum for ongoing assessment of and response to community needs; and, advocate to the public for the highest standards in the provision of interpreting services for users of both sign languages and spoken languages.

Light It, Drink It, Take It: 

Alcohol & Other Drug Signs Workshop

With Bob LoParo, CI & CT

This workshop introduces Alcohol and Other Drug [AOD] concepts for ASL-to-English, English-to-ASL, & Interactive situations guided by current Best Practices and Regional Dialect comparative samples. Specific terminology (English/ASL Lexical Items) will be presented & discussed. Practical exercises (ASL-to-English, English-to-ASL, & Interactive), presenter/partner feedback, and small group evaluation/debriefing will assist participants in identifying personal styles/boundaries and recognition of situations that may potentially contain AOD concepts. For participants’ skill development and application to their professional development, additional community/online resources will also be discussed.

This workshop will be presented in ASL.  Voice interpretation will not be provided.
