Southern California Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf


SCRID is an affiliate chapter of the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID). It is the mission of Southern California Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf to provide local forums and an organizational structure for the continued growth and development of the professions of interpretation and transliteration of American Sign Language and English.

CEUs for Academic Coursework

STEP 1. Verify CEU Eligibility

Academic Course must be taken at an institution accredited by the Council for High Education Accreditation(CHEA). You need to verify your institution’s accreditation.  Once on the webpage, scroll to the bottom of the screen and click “I Agree.” Then enter your institution’s information.


STEP 2. Contact SCRID for Sponsorship

This is to secure an agreement to process the paperwork for the course.  Be sure to discuss the Content Area for which you are applying (Professional Studies or General Studies) and how many CEUs will be earned.

The course does not have to pertain strictly to interpreting.  It can be a course in Linguistics, Business, Psychology, Social Work, etc.  As long as the course is educationally beneficial to you as an interpreter, it can earn CEUs for you.

1.5 CEUs per credit hour for a course taken in a semester session.

1.0 CEUs per credit hour for a course taken in a quarter session.

 The course must be taken during your current cycle.

 

STEP 3. Submit Payment

If you are a SCRID or RID Region V Affiliate Chapter member, the cost of each Academic Course is $25.00*, upon membership verification.  If you are not a member, the cost is $50.00** per course. **This is non-refundable**

Please note that payment must be received before CEUs can be awarded.

STEP 4: Complete the Academic Coursework Activity Report form

Complete  the Academic Coursework Activity Report form and submit.  Type in your name, using a different font on the signature line, to represent your official signature.


Upon completion send an email to cmp@scrid.org and attach the following required documentation:

  • Documentation that the college/university is accredited through the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA)
  • Course outline, syllabus, and/or catalog
  • Term type (found in course catalog or class schedule – semester or quarter)
  • Copy of the transcript showing completion of course grade of :

            “C” (2.0) or above for undergraduate courses
            “B” (3.0) or above for graduate courses

Once the above documents and payment are received, your Sponsor will send the completed paperwork to the RID National Office.  Submit only PC compatible documentation.

Note:  SCRID is audited by RID to determine if RID’s procedures/guidelines are adhered to for approving workshops/events.  Failure to pass the audit would result in SCRID losing sponsorship.  We ask you keep this in mind as we work together to gather information for sponsorship.
