In memory of him, and to honor his legacy, the Lou Fant Memorial Fund Committee established a scholarship to award a deserving interpreter. The intent of this scholarship is to assist the recipient in paying for the national certification process (written or performance).

Please keep in mind that the application for this scholarship is due 30 days prior to the Annual SCRID Membership Meeting.

Lou Fant Distinguished Service Award

The Lou Fant Memorial Fund Committee was established in honor of the beloved and renowned Lou Fant, interpreter, educator, mentor, author, and actor.

This committee was charged with creating an opportunity to acknowledge the accomplishments of two worthy local individuals: one exceptional interpreter and one Deaf community member who has been of significant support to the interpreting community. From this committee the Lou Fant Distinguished Service Awards were developed. Several interpreters and Deaf community members have been recipients of the awards to date. This fund is intended to continue the support of this awards process in recognizing deserving individuals.

SCRID Member Catastrophic Need Fund

When disaster strikes, where one is unable to work for some period of time due to accident, illness, or some other serious catastrophe, it can be very difficult to make ends meet and pay bills. Over time, several local interpreters have experienced serious financial set backs, and needed assistance. SCRID wants to be able provide financial assistance to its members who might be experiencing some catastrophic need, and this fund will be used for that purpose.
