The 2008-2009 Journal of Interpretation hits the streets with 125 information packed pages representing a broad, interdisciplinary approach to the interpretation and translation languages. Published by the Registry of Interpreters of the Deaf. The Editor-in-Chief is none other than Dr. Anthony J. Aramburo.

The first journal article, Interpreter Cognitive Aptitudes, written by Brooke Macnamara focuses on "spoken and signed 2008-2009 Journal of Interpretationlangauge interpreter processing; second language acquisition and cognition, specifically memory, intelligence, information and language processing, decision-making, problem-solving, multitasking, skill acquistion, expertise, and human performance.

Our very own Diana E. MacDougall from RCC, Gendered Discourse and ASL-to-English Interpreting, expertly analyzes a post-structuralist framework of gendered discourse as a social construction and then analyzes the implications such gendered features may have on the interpretative process.W

Were you told to 'wash your mouth out with soap' growing up? Don't worry about that now because Kelly Murphy, Warning: Explicit Content! A Case for Profanity Education and a Collection of Strategies used by Sign Language interpreters, will have none of that. Ms. Murphy makes a case that it is to an interpreters benefit to understand this aspect of language and class of words on a more conscious level, be able to analyze his/her own filters and biases, have access to strategies for managing utterances that containt profanity, and be aware that cultural differences do exist. After reading her article, I sure as hell agree.

Rounding out the fourth and final article in this edition of the Journal, Mary Thumann disects one word that was fingerspelled twenty-three times in a conversation between two Deaf women. This article provided a great deal of validation of my own style and that of Deaf friends and consumers I know.

The Board of Editors, Editor-in-Chief and the RID National Board of Directors are to be commended for choosing a fantasic slate of researchers and writers.
